Dr. Erik Chaput, a lecturer in the Providence College School of Continuing Education, a Providence Journal book reviewer, and an authority on early 19th century Rhode Island, and historian Raymond Lavertue will present the results of his latest essay, one that analyzes the famous 1833 Trial of David Gibbs and Fanny Leach for the murder of Sally Burdick of Coventry resulting from a botched abortion. Thomas Wilson Dorr served as an assistant state prosecutor in this trial.
